Also enter the mayor’s house and examine the boat inside to find the Wonder Chef for the Soup recipe. Before getting to the next destination, you can stop by the mayor’s house in Iselia for an extra scene. Your next objective is to bring back rosemary to save him. Virginia tells the party that they are welcome in her home any time. After speaking with Regal inside, head back to the west part of the village and enter the house on the right of the Katz Guild. Not wishing to cause her unnecessary burden, Raine opts to lie to her, saying that Kloitz is in Heimdall speaking with the elves. Virginia is pleased and remarks that her husband had also spoke those words to her as well, before questioning his whereabouts. When Raine visits her alongside Genis and Lloyd, Raine informs her mother that they intend to help change the world so that humans and elves no longer discriminate against the half-elves and that her children can live happily. In the PlayStation 2 and subsequent versions of the game, Virginia does not run away. She also appears as an illusion created by Mithos in Welgaia during the second visit, representing Raine's weakness of heart. However, when the party returns to Virginia's house, she is no longer there, and a nearby citizen claims she fled, believing someone was chasing her. He then gives Raine and Genis the diary that Virginia kept, and the two discover her true intentions for sending them to Sylvarant. While outside, they are approached by the the Elder of Exire, who reveals to them how Virginia ended up in Exire and Kloitz's death. Unable to stand seeing her mother like this and believing that Virginia had chosen to forget about her and Genis, Raine storms out of the house. When Virginia tells her that she will wake up "Raine", Raine angrily tells her that she is Raine, not the doll, and that Genis is there as well. After she confirms that she is Viriginia, Raine lashes at out at her, demanding to know why she abandoned them. She holds a baby doll and calls it "Raine'", then claims she is expecting a child she intends to name "Genis". Raine and Genis discover that their mother is living in Exire and wish to visit her, but when they and Lloyd arrive at her house, they find Virginia in a disturbed state. Delusional from the trauma of abandoning her children and losing her husband, Virginia became permanently stuck in her past. Kloitz died in Exire, and Virginia became unstable with grief. Shortly afterward, she and Kloitz collapsed in the Ymir Forest while returning to Heimdall, and were found by the Elder of Exire. Eventually, Virginia decided to send her children through the Otherworldly Gate to the "Fabled Land of Sylvarant". While they were traveling, Raine fell off a ship and developed a fear of water. The Imperial Research Academy was also after Raine, and possibly Genis, due to their high intelligence to keep them from taking them, the family was forced to travel. The family was exiled from Heimdall after an incident with another half-elf living there. She had two children with Kloitz: Raine and Genis. Several years prior to the events of the story, Virginia lived in Heimdall, village of the elves, when she met and married Kloitz Sage ( クロイツ・セイジ, Kuroitsu Seiji ?), a human who was sent on a mission to Heimdall from Meltokio. Virginia Sage ( バージニア・セイジ, Baajinia Seiji ?) is the mother of Genis and Raine Sage from Tales of Symphonia.
